Police Scotland is responsible for policing 28,168 square miles, with a unique range of urban, rural, island and remote communities.

As Chief Firearms Instructor you will be joining the second largest police service in the UK after the Metropolitan Police with 23,000 police officers and staff.

You will play a key role within the Armed Policing Senior Management Team, shaping policy with regards to a number of matters including people, development and equality diversity and inclusion. 

Crucially you will be pivotal in maintaining successful  working relationships between Armed Policing Training and Armed Policing Operations.  

This post is open to candidates who meet the essential criteria who are currently serving within Police Scotland or currently serving with other Police Services across the United Kingdom.

Applications are invited from substantive Chief Inspectors or suitably qualified Inspectors who have the requisite experience and qualifications to be considered for promotion on appointment, following successful completion of a Police Scotland Promotion Assessment.

Essential criteria for candidates:

 (i) Have a minimum of NVQ level 3 in Health and Safety. This normally takes the form of the Institute of Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Safely qualification. 

 (ii) Be a qualified, competent and current firearms instructor and ideally be A1 assessor trained (or equivalent) in order to peer assess their instructors in support of the College firearms training licence process.

In this role you will have responsibility for the design, development and delivery of Armed Policing training across the Force area.

You will ensure all training within the geographic and functional areas of responsibility are delivered in accordance with Police Scotland policy and guidance, the authorised Training planner and the agreed Armed Policing Role Profiles.

You will ensure that Police Scotland Armed Policing Training is compliant with national policy and guidelines relating to the delivery of firearms training through the annual College of Policing Firearms Training Licensing process.

The salary in relation this post will be dependant on completed years service in the rank and will be confirmed on appointment.

Chief Inspector rank - £62,825 - £66,872

            

          You should  have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years immediately prior to application for this role.

          Training

          Transferee officers now receive their training locally. The duration of training is based on the arrangements put in place at the division you are posted to.

          Generally speaking this will involve local induction and mentoring by a local officer.
